Kicking Leukemia with Kingsley

Donation protected

After multiple doctor visits and lovingly persistent parents, “growing pains” turned into “our worst nightmare becoming a reality.”

Over the course of a few weeks Kingsley visited multiple doctors with leg pain, fevers, and difficulty breathing. “Growing pains” seemed to be the ultimate conclusion. As Kingsley’s symptoms worsened, Sam and Nate (Mom and Dad) knew something was not right.

“Kingsley has been having leg pain and fevers for a few weeks. The doctor said it was likely growing pains. The following day was when the fevers started and I took him to the immediate care because he was not himself, not wanting to walk or eat and with the leg pain I was concerned. We were told growing pains again. Friday, later in the day he starting acting off and told me he couldn’t breath. He was retracting and his nails were a tint of blue so we took him right to the ER. They did an x-ray of his chest which came back normal. He had a fever, was retracting and saying his chest hurt, but the visit didn’t lead to any answers of why he was having these symptoms. The following days he seemed okay but not himself. We thought maybe he had something viral with growing pains. Wednesday night he was up the entire night in pain and we were at the point where Tylenol and Motrin were no longer helping relieve his pain. Thursday we took him back to the ER and demanded blood work. With some hesitation they did a complete blood count and a blood smear. His CBC came back low in places and the blood smear wasn’t reviewed at that point. We went home. The next day I called his pediatrician when they opened to get him in to have them review his blood work as he still had a fever. Right after I got off the phone we got a call from the hospital to come back as soon as possible because his blood work and the blood smear were abnormal. When we got there we were told the thing they are most worried about is Leukemia. We were transferred to Luries children’s hospital in Chicago later that day.

Where we are today..

Kingsley has Leukemia. He is having a lumbar puncture and bone marrow biopsy done tomorrow (9/7) to figure out the kind of leukemia and the stage. After they get the results they will start chemotherapy.”

This is just the beginning of an unimaginable journey for a handsome, spunky and smart four-year old boy.

We ask for prayers and positive thoughts as he fights his battle with Leukemia.

Donations will help aid in covering hospital bills, keeping Kingsley happy and comfortable, help with lost wages and allow some financial stability as they endure this battle.

We love you Kingsley- YOU GOT THIS!!
