On July 31st, after several weeks of medical tests, Kathy was diagnosed with very aggressive Stage 4, Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Carcinoma, or PNETs, which has metastasized to her liver with 10 tumors. This has been a blow to Kathy and her family and a difficult adjustment. Their faith in God however has not waivered.
Although Pancreatic Cancer affects more than 55,000 people each year Kathy’s type is a rare (about 6% of pancreatic cancers each year are PNETs) form and is very aggressive and advanced at Stage IV. This type of cancer is complicated and difficult to treat. There are also very few doctors with extensive experience in the treatment of this terrible cancer. After research Kathy and her husband have found that pursuing consultations with PNETs specialists and seeking integrative treatments will be the most beneficial and prudent path forward. These treatments and consultations, however, are outside of their limited insurance coverage and will involve distant and frequent travel. Time is also of the essence.

Many of us know how quickly routine medical bills can add up and increase the burden and stress on a family, even more so when dealing with a serious illness such as PNETs.
How will your generosity help? All funds donated will be used to help pay for the cost of outside consults with specialists, treatments, travel and lodging expenses. As Kathy is unable to travel these distances on her own these funds will also offset her husband’s loss of income as he takes time from his business to care for her and still provide for his family’s needs.
Kathy and her husband Dave met when they were both serving in the US Navy. They have been married for 35 years and are blessed to have 10 wonderful children. They have dedicated their lives to raising their children, homeschooling, and serving their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as He would lead them.
As her family rallies around her to support and care for her, Kathy finds her children to be a true blessing from the Lord, especially her youngest son Xan (age 11) who constantly dotes on his mom, reads scripture to her, prays with her, and is always concerned with her comfort and needs. While we are praying that the Lord will provide abundantly for these needs and her healing, we are also praying she will be well enough to attend her oldest son’s upcoming wedding in October.
During this trial Kathy and Dave are also looking forward to the opportunity to minister to others they will meet on this journey and share the hope that is within in their times of need. They are also exploring ways they can become involved with raising awareness of the need for much more research in the earlier diagnosis of and advances in the successful treatment of PNETs.
