Kickin' Cancer's Butt Country Style !
We are all affected in one way or another by cancer. Either someone close to you has it, you have had it yourself or you know of someone that has it.
This campaign is very personal to me. Just before Christmas last year my family was rocked by the news that my beautiful mum had bowel cancer. We were all shocked! She was fit and healthy and didn't show any typical signs of bowel cancer. It was only through a colonoscopy that was suggested by her GP just as a precaution that it was detected as it is in the family history. She had surgery immediately and within just a few short weeks had recovered amazingly and was given the all clear.
We couldn't believe how lucky she was and we all felt like we had won lotto! But that feeling was short lived. Literally the day she got the all clear from her doctor she had noticed a rather large lump that had appeared out of no where in her breast. Her doctor knew it wasn't good and so did she. Mum had regular mammograms every 2 years but no abnormalities had been detected. Within just a couple of weeks we learned that mum had an even bigger battle ahead of her, she had aggressive breast cancer.
She immediately went into surgery and had her breast removed. The news wasn't great. The lump was quiet large and had already penetrated into her chest wall and lymph glands. She had a type of breast cancer called Lobular Breast Cancer which is not as easily detected by mammogram or breast examination and affects only 10% of people with breast cancer. This was frightening in itself!
I still remember the moment she walked into her bedroom with me and told me the news and that she was going to have to go through Chemotherapy and Radiation. We both just had the biggest hug and cry. Shit things happen to good people! I was angry, upset and just couldn't shake this lump of anxiety I had in my chest. My mum is my rock, and the kindest, most generous woman I know. Always looking after everyone else and never herself. She is also the strongest woman I know and a fighter. And she is also one of those women who suffered from anxiety but never let it show. Keeping all of that built up inside.
She has given up having a life of her own to raise myself and my sisters. She also took in complete strangers as borders for many different reasons and treated them just like her own. She became a full time carer for two of her grand children for a period when my sister needed her help after a devestating time. Now its time for her to live for her!
I know she will beat this. She has a long road ahead both physically and mentally but I am doing everything in my power to be there for her and to also give her some fresh hope for the future. I knew I needed to turn this situation into a positive somehow and she deserves to have something amazing happen to her. That's why I have decided to run my own little campaign called Kickin' Cancer's Butt.
All money raised will help mum find fresh hope for the future and tick 2 dreams off her bucket list; a new kitchen and an amazing holiday to the Kimberly's.
Please help me and my family make these dreams come true for her, She is the type of person who would never expect this in her wildest dreams and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts for your support. Let's blow her away with love and support!
