18 year old looking to live independently
My name is Natalie and I'm an 18 year old from New York City. In January 2021, my mother kicked me out of our apartment and I found myself struggling financially. She has been incredibly toxic and difficult to live with. This isn't been the first time she's kicked me out or has been emotionally manipulative towards me.
At that time, I had to temporarily stay with a relative until she decided to cool down, which is incredibly unfair. Originally, I was supposed to be in college at California, but COVID-19 made this impossible. While I was in high school, she would still kick me out even if it was a school week. I try to understand her reasoning, but I can't live with her any longer. It makes me incredibly depressed, I'm going underweight, and I can't stand being here anymore.
I currently have a minimum wage part-time job, it won't be enough to support my living expenses or tuition. I am already accumulating debt from school loans. If this continues, I will have to postpone school to fully commit to a job which is the last case scenario.
When I first made this GoFundMe, I was under extreme amounts of stress because my semester was starting and I needed to find a place to live ASAP. It turns out that with the donations at the time, I couldn't afford to live on my own. My mother has cooled down and has allowed me to return home but I don't know when she'll have another outbreak like this. Because I'm 18, she can legally choose to kick me out. There's a possibility she will move states in July 2021, so I need a place to live before then. I really didn't want to return home but I don't have any other choice.
I've already applied to transfer to a college that will give me more financial aid. I also am applying to internships and other job opportunities so I can raise as much money as I can. I've been constantly looking for roommates, apartments, and sublets.
The funds will go towards the first few months of rent along with money for food and everyday necessities. My other friends have been incredibly generous and supportive, but I am in a lot of financial stress. Any kind of support is greatly appreciated.
