My Story
This is my third time battling cancer, but it’s the first time I’ve ever asked for help. In the past, when I didn’t need assistance, I didn’t ask. But this time, I can’t do it alone.
Earlier this year, I went through treatment believing it would work. But at my six-month scans, I learned the cancer was still growing—and my body had developed a resistance to the current medication. Hearing that news broke me. I don’t want to die. I want to live. I want to fight with everything I have so I can return to health, fulfill my purpose, and continue giving back to my family and community. I am still young, and I still have so much life left to give.
My husband and I were separated, but when he found out that my stage 4 breast cancer had returned, he quit his job and moved back to support me and our son. He hasn’t left my side since. There’s even a picture of him sleeping in broad daylight—exhausted, but unwilling to leave me alone. He wants to do so much more, but I know how hard it is for him to watch, helpless, knowing he can’t take the sickness away. What he can do is provide comfort and support, though at times even that doesn’t feel like enough to him. While I’m deeply grateful for his sacrifice, it also meant losing his income. He’s been applying everywhere, but so far, no doors have opened.
On top of that, I’ve fallen behind on my mortgage. Payments for July and August didn’t post, and when I tried to make the September payment, I couldn’t—because the bank sent a demand letter for the two missed payments.
It’s hard to focus on my healing—on appointments, medication, proper nutrition, and the rest my body needs—while constantly worrying about bills. I homeschool my son, but with my health declining, I now need to enroll him in a micro school so he can have the structure and support he deserves.
I’ve been too proud to ask for help before, but I’m putting my pride aside now. I need help to give myself the best chance at fighting, at healing, and at reclaiming my life.
