On December 24th 2019 my dear friend and colleague Karen Chan and her family received the news no parent should ever have to hear.
Their vivacious, fun loving 3 year old son Karsten Kwan was diagnosed with a rare cancer of the connective tissue called Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma.  His pediatrician  found a sizable lump in his belly which prompted a quick trip to the ER and later a biopsy that confirmed he has cancer!

Karsten faces a long  journey of treatment including chemotherapy, surgery to remove the tumor and radiation.
