Kiana Miller's Lupus Expenses

"Kiana, who turned 15 this summer, started her Lupus journey in June when she got sick with Mono and ended up in the ER with complications. She was transferred to Inova Children's Hospital in Fairfax, VA where multiple blood and urine tests as well as a kidney biopsy were performed. She had severe inflammation and bleeding in her kidneys. The Dr's felt she had an auto immune disorder that was likely Lupus. She was sent home on high doses of steroids and eventually more meds were added to try to save her kidneys from further damage and potential dialysis.

After hours of research and personal talks with other Lupus patients, the decision was made to take Kiana to Mexico for treatment. She has received her first round of treatment and is responding very well. She is currently on a home treatment plan with plans for a follow up visit to Mexico in January. Her total treatment will take several years and is quite costly.

The above article was written by Kiana's dad, Daryl Miller. At this time, the estimated cost for Kiana's full treatment plan is between $150,000 and $200,000.

UPDATE:

When we started this fundraiser, we sent the goal at $150,000; which is the estimated total cost of Kiana's treatment. Some of the donors wanted to see that broke down more, so we're going to start updating our goal for each of her treatments. The first treatment cost:$35,331 through GFM and some private donations, we received all but $2,267 of that. Kiana's next treatment is scheduled for January. The estimated cost for that treatment will be $20,000, so our new goal will be $22, 267. We'll keep you informed as the treatment continues. Thank you to all who have supported this cause!
