Kialani’s fight for her life

Hafa Adai, my name is Amanda and I humbly come to your aid in asking for any sort of help on behalf of my beautiful and full-of-life niece Kialani Faith. Kialani, or Kia as we call her, has been diagnosed with serious liver damage at the very young age of 24. Serious liver damage, or Cirrhosis, is a disorder in which healthy liver cells are gradually replaced by scar tissue. It is a progressive illness. Kia’s condition is Decompensated Cirrhosis. This means that her condition is causing various symptoms and has led to various problems.

About two weeks ago, Kia went to a local hospital in Tennessee where she resides because she wasn’t feeling well. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit because of low oxygen levels and other multiple complications. She was in the ICU for a week before being transferred to a larger hospital and has since been seen by multiple doctors, all trying to figure out what was causing all her symptoms. Still, doctors cannot figure out how Kia's condition began or what may have caused it.

After thorough testing, doctors have confirmed that she has serious liver damage, likely in the later stages. This condition makes treating her other symptoms, such as her high blood pressure and her low blood oxygen levels, quite challenging.

Recent tests have provided some explanation for Kia’s recent and progressive behavior changes. She has elevated ammonia levels which are causing confusion and impacting her cognitive functions. This is also liver-related as toxin levels in her body are rising.

Based on the specialist's findings, they believe Kia may require a liver transplant. However, we're awaiting final confirmation on that.

It's been a tough few weeks. Kia's oxygen levels have been very low and she is not able to do most daily mundane tasks and requires 24/7 care. Her mom Chris and dad Glenn have been by her side the whole time, caring for her and praying for the best. Kia is currently waiting to be transferred to a hospital that specializes in her condition and we can only hope and pray a viable liver match is available and she can get the needed replacement.

If you saw Kia today, you wouldn't believe that she is going through what she is going through. But that is Kia, even in the face of the worst she still carries her sense of humor and her contagious laugh with her beautiful spirit.

Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated and go toward helping defray the already surmounting medical costs my niece and sister are incurring.

Most of all, your prayers for a miracle are what we need the most. Your support means everything to us. Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers.

02/27/2024 Update:
Kia and family send their heartfelt thank you to ALL of you who have donated, reached out and prayed for her. She was finally transferred to the specialty hospital where work can begin for Kia to hopefully get the much needed liver transplant. They have been doing more tests on her to determine her viability for the transplant and if there are any other health concerns that may affect that.

We ask for your prayers more so than ever now. This road is going to be long and hard.
