Kiah urged everyone to explore how society systematically limits underrepresented students' access to the social capital necessary for pursuing postsecondary education. She emphasized the importance of fostering creative, effective connections between these communities and the institutions they seek to access. Drawing from her personal experiences—such as her childhood dreams of being a princess, her surprise at the inequitable distribution of resources in high school, and her frustration with the lack of diverse representation in college due to such disparities—Kiah became determined to understand and address these issues. Her journey led her to research the systemic barriers, including discrimination, school funding policies, citizenship status, and disparities in school discipline, that contribute to the lack of diverse representation in higher education. In response to these challenges, Kiah founded The Princess Project, a college readiness program designed to empower underrepresented high school girls through culturally relevant mentoring and community engagement. Through The Princess Project, we, the Duggins family, hope to carry on Kiah's legacy. Like her, we aim to inspire others to disrupt systemic cycles of inequity by creating a network of connections between institutions and the communities they have historically excluded.
Your generous donation helps empower underrepresented middle and high school girls through mentoring and community involvement. Together, we can make a difference in their lives and futures.
