Carlos D. Barboa - Fight Cancer Fund

I write to you today with a request that breaks my heart.
Not all of you may know because this is a subject that has been so very difficult for me to discuss.
As most of you do know, I have a 16 year old son named Carlos, last November of 2013 we were struck with the news that his father Carlos Barboa, Sr at age 38 has stage 4 kidney cancer. Following the news Carlos Sr. immediately underwent surgery where unfortunately they were not able to get all of the cancer because it had already began to spread. Following the surgery Carlos Sr. underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments, which helped reduce the cancer but nearly took his life.
For that reason, that form of therapy had to discontinue, which was devastating and left all of us feeling extremely helpless. We immediately started researching other treatment options. What became clear very soon was that our only options were going to be clinical studies, if Carlos Sr. was an eligible applicant, you think of course he would be eligible, however that was not the case. Clinical studies require a person to meet all of their criteria, which so happens to be quite extensive. Long story short, after being turned down and refused by all eligible clinical studies but one and as we became increasingly more desperate, Carlos Sr. was finally accepted as a candidate for a study being held in Tennessee.
Being accepted into the study was great news, however since this began Carlos Sr. was not able to work and he would need to travel to Tennessee every 21 days for 4 days of treatment. His former employer tried to keep him on as long as he could but eventually had to let him go, as he could not work. We have been so grateful that he was accepted into this clinical study however the entire family has been struggling with the expenses needed to continue to try to save his life.
Carlos Sr. has been fighting this monster just a little over a year now and can continue to fight with help. So as much as it pains me to do so, I am asking for your help.
This Friday, January 23rd at the Wool Warehouse from 6:00 pm to Midnight we are having a benefit dinner for Carlos. There will be door prizes, raffles, food and drinks. Tickets are only $10.00 each.
I know many of you do not know my sons father Carlos so I am not asking you to attend the dinner unless you would like to, but we would love to see everyone there as we share in this struggle.
I am asking that you please consider donating at the very least the $10.00 price of the ticket admission, and any donation is greatly appreciated.
Also if any of you have and are willing to sell or donate airline travel passes we would be so grateful as Carlos needs to travel monthly for treatment in Tennessee.
This is such a terrifying experience and my heart breaks for my son and his father every day.
I am so thankful and grateful for all your support and help for Carlos' Dad to continue the fight against cancer and save his life.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you so much!
Chevonne
