Tanzania Study & Leadership Program
Donation protected
My name is Khiara Remedios A. Chua, a Teacher Candidate from York University. I am given the opportunity to serve in Tanzania, Africa for three weeks - to build schools, teach children, and at the same time learn and immerse into the Maasai people and culture. "The Maasai are a Nilotic ethnic group of semi-nomadic people inhabiting southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. They are among the best known local populations due to their residence near the many game parks of the African Great Lakes, and their distinctive customs and dress (Wikipedia, 2015)."
The trip is scheduled from April 2 to 22, 2016.
I am raising funds to be able to join the Tanzania Study and Leadership Program, which is in conjunction with "Me to We" program which aims to help less fortunate communities. The total cost of the trip is $ 4,695. This includes airfare, our accomodation in a camp, building materials & preparatory learning program funds. My initial plan is to raise $2000 for the cost of materials which will serve as an indirect donation to the Maasai people in Africa. Please help me materialize this opportunity and help us build a community.
Other information regarding the program:
"The Tanzania Study and Leadership Program provides a unique opportunity to partake in service learning, volunteerism, and educational programs in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore and enhance their leadership by combining meaningful service learning and educational activities. Participants will spend the majority of their time volunteering at local schools, teaching, building classrooms, and helping in practical ways to improve the local community while interacting intensively with the local Maasai people.
The delivery of this program is in conjunction with 'Me to We'. Co-founded by Marc and Craig Kielburger, Me to We has earned worldwide recognition for its dedication in eradicating child labour throughout the world. It is also devoted to youth leadership and has established program sites around the world."
Thank you! =)
