I told my son don’t leave until everyone knows your name. He dunked 5 times in 4 games and got interviewed after! Mission accomplished!!
This was 2 weeks ago, my son went to a basketball tournament in LA and later that night the coach called and My son received a scholarship to Pima college in Arizona. It was a wonderful day of celebrating until I realized the scholarship just pays for the out of state tuition. This will be his first time away from home and his first time having an apt where he is responsible for the bills and rent. It has been a whirlwind last 2 weeks while we get ready for this next step.
He receives financial aide which will help a lot. Unfortunately he won’t receive that until the third week of September. Because of the short notice I need help from Khalil’s village to get him to September. He will be leaving Saturday August 3rd with just a backpack of clothes and shoes to start practicing with the Aztecs. School starts August 22nd.
This go fund me will help with the first 2 months of rent and bills, food, necessities, bedding and towels. The apartment is furnished thankfully. His car broke down last month so he will also need money for gas and Uber to get around until he can get another car.
His entire life has revolves around basketball and this is his dream. He spends an average of 10 hours a day, practicing his craft, conditioning and going to the gym after to do it all again. We are so thankful for Sierra college for getting him to this next level. He will miss his friends and teammates but they wish him nothing but the best.
My job as his mama is to set him up for success and support his dreams. This has been his dream since he was 5 years old. It wasn’t an easy choice for him to go because in March of this year he welcomed his own son, Khalil Jr. He will miss a lot of first steps and first words and that saddens him immensely but his son has a fantastic mommy and understands it is necessary for him to receive a full ride scholarship to a Division 1 school next year. This will let him receive a college degree and get a great start in life with plenty of job opportunities and a career to provide for his son with a solid foundation.
For the last 15 years I have depended on Khalil’s village and welcomed the support and love he receives from my friends and family. Please if you can help it would be so appreciated and I will keep you updated on how well he is doing!! Fingers crossed they make it to the nation championship again and you will see him on TV soon!!! I am so proud of my son!!!
Thank you for your time and support. We love you!
