R.I.P. BROTHER KHALIFA"When you part from your friend, you should grieve not; for that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain." -Kahlil Gibran★★★

We need your help to assist Khalifa's surviving family with the costs of his memorial services and related expenses. Below is the story of our Brother Khalifa:

On Dec. 7, 2017, our beloved Brother Richard "Chuckie" Diggs who many affectionately called Khalifa, received his freedom after 41 yrs. of incarceration by returning Home to meet his Lord above. He was a pioneer of Restorative Justice and taught many who talk the talk how the crucial actions of rehabilitated prisoners could be the catalyst to create change in those readiest to victimize & threaten the safety of our communities. In his daily walk as a state prisoner, he always found a way to give back, help whoever he could & teach others about the consequences of bad choices. Although some will ALWAYS only see the negativity in what he did in his past -- his bad choices in committing a crime & his early years in prison -- my good brother found a way to inculcate Christ into his life & alter himself out of the dark to effervesce as a guiding light to help so many trying to find a way to redemption. Khalifa will be remembered for not only his passionate support in laying the foundations for Restorative Justice -- especially in regards to finding resolve in creating middle-ground between the police and local communities -- those who know him best will miss his no-nonsense wisdom & his sly sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, his family, a multitude of friends, a plethora of associates & a galaxy of companions he assisted in the struggle. May he Rest In Power.

The above was written by one of Khalifa's best friends and fellow lifer,  Malakki. Apparently, Khalifa had been ill since SCI-Pittsburgh. He and Malakki were transferred to Albion after Pittsburgh closed. We believe he had liver cancer. Khalifa and his family have been a part of the lifers movement since I got involved in the early 2000's. The prison called his daughter a couple weeks ago and told her it was not looking good for him. Malakki and Bret were also trying to get as much info as they could.

Several times I ran into men who had been released from SCI Western and they couldn't say enough about how Khalifa had changed their life. He changed mine too. Sittin' in that visiting trailer at SCI Pittsburgh.  I might call him the unofficial reentry specialist - the way he guided others on their release. I heard there was a service for him on December 14th in Mckee's Rocks. Not sure any details. Love you Khalifa!! So glad to have shared this world with you.
