Update: Thank you to all who donated! We've collected a whopping 92,750 Egyptian Pounds. Receipts for transactions have been posted here with the water infrastructure ones to come shortly.

With the anniversary of my father's passing approaching on March 24th, my brother and I would like to set up a charity on his behalf leading up to Ramadan. Our father has touched countless lives from his time spent as a lifelong educator. His legacy lives on through all of his students along with his three children.

The best way we found to honor his legacy is to collect and distribute funds towards the causes that he cared about. He was always looking to impact the world through activism and volunteering and we hope to continue this legacy beyond his physical life. The money collected will be used to fund projects in his home country, Egypt. Given his passions and interests, we selected the following causes to contribute towards. The funds will be split among these three programs:

Through Bait Zakat under the supervision of Sheikh Al-Azhar:

Education Program (support for school and university costs). This program helps alleviate the suffering of students who are unable to afford educational costs in an effort to build an educated society.
Seha Program (health and treatment services). This program provides direct assistance represented in dispensing medicines, performing operations, providing surgical supplies, purchasing medical supplies, etc. to families or individuals who cannot afford it.

Both these programs provide donation receipts that I will share.

Through Saqiya Al-Kheir Office under engineer Sayed Abu Bakr

Well Installation Program. This program builds wells in Upper Egypt in communities without access to clean water. Implementation in the villages of Wangua, Bani Sweif Governorate, Fayoum Governorate, and Minya Governorate.

This program provides video updates of the wells' installation that I will share.

The Qur’an reminds us that there is a “recognized right, for the needy and deprived” over our wealth (70:24-5), so by giving for the sake of others, a Muslim is fulfilling a duty to those in need and preventing him or her from becoming proud of their own generosity.
