As August was beginning, Karen was getting ready to return to work and send her oldest child, Liam off to Kindergarten.  During this time she was suffering with a bout of intense "sinus headaches" and went to the doctor to check them out.   These headaches turned out to be  a brain tumor, and not just any tumor, but the aggressive Glioblastoma.

Instead of spending the weekend home celebrating her 42nd birthday with her husband Robert, and children Liam and Regan, she was undergoing a long and extensive surgery to remove an orange sized tumor from her frontal lobe.

The good news is that the doctors were able to remove 95% of this tumor, but the road ahead is still long.  Karen is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, and needs to be vigilant in monitoring the regrowth of this aggressive tumor.  Due to a seizure during surgery, Karen cannot drive herself to treatments.

For those of you that know Karen, you know she is the most selfless, caring person you will ever meet.  She is kind and compassionate and would go above and beyond when asked for help, for both friends and strangers alike.  Karen has spent years taken care of everyone else.  She volunteered and worked with underprivileged students, she has been a teacher, advocate, and friend to children with autism and their families for almost twenty years, and cared for her friends' children as if they were her own.  When she met Bobby, they had an instant connection, and she got the opportunity to have her own beautiful family.
