Our Heart Baby

Hello everyone, my husband (Steve) and I (Saudia) are the parents of a wonderful baby boy named Zackary Nathan - born 2/16/22 at 6:24 pm. We knew he had a congenital heart defect (transposition of the great arteries), VSD

(ventricular septal defect) and hypo-plastic arch at 23 weeks and 4 days . We were given the option to not keep him and had 3 days to decide. We took a leap of faith and chose our son. We did not know the difficulty we would be facing having a baby with a congenital heart defect. 

We were informed Zackary would need open heart surgery in the first week of life to survive . Surgery went well, however another issue was discovered unbeknownst to the medical team until after his surgery - which was a left intramural coronary artery. We made it home for 5 days and ended back in the hospital for a second emergency heart surgery on 3/18/22 which dealt with his left coronary artery.

We haven't left the hospital since 3/16/22. Zackary has had numerous unforeseen complications that’s kept him in the hospital. The odds have been against him but he is so strong and resilient. We are both nurses and feel it's our duty as his parents do be with him 24/7 alternating to advocate for our son and fight with him. We did not anticipate being out of work for this long or having such a prolonged hospital stay. We are also planning for the future - where we are told he will need a third heart surgery.

Funds would help us with medical expenses, keeping our home and most important being with our son at this time.
