Help the Davis Family

Hi. My name is Meagan and Lori and Aaron are my best friends. Their daughter Hailey has been in the ICU unconscious since March 25th. I have been updating the page each day on the progress she makes. Find below the whole story shortly after she went into ICU.

March 27 (From Hailey's grandma)
For those of you who don’t know already my granddaughter Hailey Davis(Lori and Aaron’s daughter) is in the ICU at Children’s Hospital in Columbus. She had returned from a school trip to New Orleans on Friday and on Sunday she was in the ER with a high temp, headache and blurry vision. She was transferred by ambulance to Children’s and her symptoms rapidly progressed. By Monday afternoon she was transferred to ICU. She is currently intubated and stable while they look for answers. I have been doing a morning/evening update and this is the update from this morning:

March 28, 2024 Thursday AM Hailey update:
Today we are going to wean her off some of the heavier sedation meds but still keep her intubated and see how she responds. She does not open her eyes yet but does try and she wiggles her toes a little and tries to squeeze your hand but it is very weak. PT was in to do some stretches and movements for her. We remain in the ICU and will continue to be here until she is able to respond and maintain her airway and they can extubate her. ICU doc says at least thru the weekend. Her color looks a little better this morning and while improvement is slight we will take it! We will see how the day goes and update you again this evening❤️ please keep her in your prayers

Good morning everyone
Friday morning Hailey update:

Hailey had 12hours of breathing with ventilator at cpap setting which is really good. After 12 hours though she began to struggle a little so the ventilator settings were adjusted to help her breathe. Other than that there has not been a lot of change. She got another round of steroids and PT was in and sat her up in the bed to stretch her back and try to get her to use her neck muscles some. Her neurological status remains relatively the same with only minimal improvement. This afternoon they are going to start plasmapheresis, a procedure that removes the harmful antibodies from the blood (similar to a dialysis treatment). We continue to rely on our faith knowing that God is in control!

Friday evening Hailey update:

There is not a lot of changes to report on Hailey’s condition. She did receive her first plasmapheresis treatment with no complications. Her vital signs remain stable and she does take breaths on her own over the ventilator settings. We are thankful even for the baby steps!
I can’t say enough good things about all the staff involved in her care. Everyone has been so kind and they all take time out to explain everything that they are doing and are patient with all of our questions. She is being well taken care of and we know she is where she needs to be to get better❤️
Thank you all for your continued love and prayers. And even though I am not able to respond to each emoji hug, smile or comment that you send, I see and appreciate all your love and support as we struggle to navigate this difficult journey.

Saturday evening Hailey update:

Nothing has really changed for Hailey. She continues to receive high dose steroids and respiratory treatments. Massage therapy was in this afternoon and she got a massage and I think they are planning some sort of music therapy too. Her VS remain stable. I will update you again tomorrow when I get back and get an update on her condition.
Have a Happy Easter everyone❤️

He is Risen!! Hallelujah!

Easter Sunday Hailey update:

Lori said Hailey had a pretty good night. As she was touching her face she said she flinched a bit and was turning her head when they were suctioning her. Her lungs sound clear today and she got her second round of plasma pheresis.
I am back at the hospital and will keep you all posted.

Good morning!
Monday AM
Week 2 Hailey update:

Hailey had an uneventful evening and this morning everything is about the same. After today she will be done with all antibiotics. A couple results from the many tests that they have done have not come back yet but the many antibiotics that she has been on covers anything that might come back positive. (So far everything has been negative) Tomorrow she will get her third round of plasma pheresis (every other day)and while she will more than likely have several more rounds they did tell us that after the third round we might start to see some improvement. We know this will continue to take time and we remain patient trusting God is in control. ❤️

Monday evening Week 2
Hailey update

Today has been relatively quiet for Hailey. She is still getting her respiratory treatments and she does not like it when they suction her. Her neuro status remains unchanged with little or no response. Immunology was in this afternoon and they are still leaning toward a rare autoimmune disease called MOGAD- an inflammatory disorder where the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues. While they continue to treat for that, and because she has been slow to respond so far, this evening they are going to do a CAT scan to rule out any tumors or abnormalities. We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more. Thank you all for your continued prayers and all your love and support. ❤️
Good nite for now

Good morning all
Tuesday morning
Week 2 Hailey update

Last night Hailey went down for a CAT scan of the head, abdomen and pelvis to rule out any cancers or malignancies. Everything came back negative. She went back later for a second CT of the brain because they noticed some eye changes and her pupils were dilated but that also came back negative.
She also spiked a low grade fever and her heart rate, B/P and respirations all increased so they increased her fentanyl to make her more comfortable. This morning her VS are still a little elevated and Infectious disease came back to evaluate why she might be spiking a fever. They have sent additional cultures.
Neurology was in and she continues to remain non-responsive. They have ordered a few additional tests to be sent out but continue to treat for MOGAD. She will get her third treatment of plasma pheresis today and they continue to monitor her closely and are taking excellent care of her. Please continue the prayers for Hailey that we see some positive changes soon!! ❤️

Tuesday evening Week 2
Hailey update:

So sorry for the late update. I know you are all praying for Hailey and concerned for her. Sometimes docs come in late or things are happening so I try to wait to give you the latest and most current updates.
This afternoon ophthalmology was in and checked her eyes and told us there is little to no swelling on the optic nerve!! That is great news!! But Hailey has had a low grade temp this evening and her heart rate is elevated. The PICU doc has been by her bedside watching her closely, treating her and her VS are starting to come back down.
So we can celebrate the good news but we struggle watching and praying while we wait for answers. Continue to pray for Hailey and the family as this is so very hard!! We love you all❤️

Wednesday
Week 2 Hailey update

There are really no changes in Hailey’s status. She is still intubated and non-responsive. Her lungs are clear and still no swelling on the optic nerve. They continue to turn her every couple hours and she is getting physical therapy daily. She will get another plasma pheresis treatment tomorrow.
Thank you all for the e-cards she has been getting. While she can’t see them we are reading them all to her and hanging them on the wall for when she wakes up!! ❤️❤️

Wednesday evening Week 2
Hailey update

Hailey remains the same with no significant changes. Hopefully we will hear the results of the antibody test tomorrow or Friday. Because everything continues to remain pretty much the same and to prevent your phone from overload,I will give you an update just once a day. Of course if there is ANY in changes in between I will certainly post. Keep the prayers coming and I will update again tomorrow❤️❤️

Thursday
Week 2 Hailey’s Update

Today we got the results of the antibody test for MOG encephalitis and they came back negative. They are still thinking some sort of autoimmune disease and continue to treat for that. She is getting her fourth round of plasmapheresis and then going down for another MRI at 8. There has been no real change in her condition and we are continuing to pray for improvement and answers. I will continue to keep you posted❤️

Friday
Week 2 Hailey update

Immunology/neurology was in and talked with us at length this afternoon. They pulled up both of her MRIs and showed us the comparisons and talked about where we go from here as there has not been any significant changes.
They are going to do another LP and another EEG this week-end and Monday will suppress her immune system with a chemo drug to aggressively stop the inflammation. They have reached out to numerous collegues across the US and they are in agreement that this is the next step. We continue to pray that we will start to see improvement from this treatment❤️❤️thank you for the continued prayers, ecards, thoughts and concerns as it looks like we will be here in the ICU for some time. ❤️❤️

The rest of the updates are on the main page. So now that you have a little idea of what the family has been through.
Thank you for your time!
