Support Bernie’s Surgery

Hi everyone,

I am reaching out because my sweet kitty, Bernie, is having emergency surgery to remove a foreign object that he had swallowed. I would have never expected this to happen, but surgery was my only option. If you have ever experienced this before or work in the veterinary field (like I do), you know the cost of the procedure is overwhelming.

Bernie is only 10 months old and is always super playful and energetic. I knew when he stopped wanting to play and eat his meals that something was off. I took him over to the emergency clinic, and they took abdominal x-rays and were a little uncertain whether or not there was something in his digestive tract, so he went for an ultrasound, and confirmed there is something in there that shouldn't be. I knew I had to do the surgery to save him, but the estimated cost was around $6,000, which is a big, unexpected cost.

I've had Bernie since he was 6 weeks old, after being found outside weighing less than a pound, and he means the world to me. Obviously I am not expecting the entire cost or anything near that to be covered, but any contribution would be so helpful, big or small, to at least cover some of the costs. Even if you can't donate, sharing this post would mean so much.

I will continue to give updates on Bernie when I hear more. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and please share or donate if you can.

Update! Bernie had his surgery and is recovering well! They found some type of string, not really sure where it is from, but it was damaging his intestines. They were able to remove it all and repair the damage. Hopefully he will be able to come home soon, as they are monitoring him to make sure he can eat ok. I am so relieved they were able to figure out what was going on and help save my kitty.

Another update! Bernie is home and so so happy to be back with us! Everything went super well and he is back to eating. Recovery is usually for about 2 weeks, so hopefully everything goes well and he continues to get better.
