Ching, chang, chong...
You don't belong here...
Some of us were borne here, some of us came here long time ago and became citizens of US, some of us live here with different nationalities, some of us are here to study....
but ALL of us have heard of those sayings.
The things, that we hear only because of our looks, nothing to do with what we have done.
Ever since the pandemic started, Asians had to deal with bullying, hatred, and hostility with various degrees in addition to life-threatening COVID-19.
From little things like cashiers never greet with Asian customers in the grocery, random people stare or curse at the park, and physical attacks by strangers.
On March 16, 8 people were killed, including 6 Asian women by whom specifically targeted Asian businesses. Discrimination against Asians has a long history, but never been acknowledged.
We witnessed BLM movement last year, how everyone came together to fight against the racial violence.
Yet our deaths, don't get enough attention, because we are the Less Dead. Our stories get behind other stories, our cries get tucked away behind other crises, our voices get hushed by majorities, but we declare that we will be no longer silence or sit and cry.
We will stand against the racism and voice our anger and frustration.
Our fund will be used to encourage public awareness of hatreds against Asians in our community, Athens and surrounding areas by utilizing billboard ($1500) and local newspapers ($2000).
Please help us to make our town a even better place that anyone and everyone can feel safe and welcomed regardless of their skin color or look.
This is our home and our country.
We belong HERE.
