My name is Melissa, and I am creating this GoFundMe page for my children's father, Randy, and his emergency medical journey. This is to help with medical bills that insurance doesn't cover and for the long road to recovery and rehabilitation from three surgeries that really took a toll on him. He is in Barnes ICU and has been in the hospital since August 27th. They admitted him when I took him to the emergency room. What we went to the emergency room for turned out to be something we totally did not expect. They found a mass in his appendix, which was early-stage cecal cancer. Although they took his appendix out and removed all the cancer, this turned into a nightmare. He ended up having to have two more surgeries and was taken to Barnes Hospital for the third surgery.
This is very hard for me to ask anyone for any type of donation, but this will help with fixing a few things at his house for when he is able to come home. We know this is going to be a long journey of recovery and rehabilitation, and I mean he will be going to a long-term care rehabilitation facility until he is recovered enough to come home. Please keep Randy in your prayers and his family. Right now, the doctors say one day at a time, and he finally opened his eyes two days ago. This is a little progress. He has been on antibiotics for having septic shock, and the antibiotics are working. Once the infection is gone, then the next step will be for him to be stable enough to be a candidate for another surgery for another leak that he has which is plugged with a drain right now. He is still very ill and has a few other things going on. We have all been just a worried mess even though he shows some progress. This is a very difficult time for all of us. I am doing my best at keeping things going and trying to keep up with bills, and let me tell y'all, it is very hard and stressful. This was so unexpected there are no funds for something like this, and unless you have been through something like this with a loved one, you have no clue how hard it really is. He will not be able to do the things he did before, like fixing the small bathroom floor or yard work, etc. He will have to take it easy whenever he gets to come home, and right now we do not know if it's going to be a month or 3 months or more until he gets to come home. So again, please pray for us. I know there are a lot of you that know Randy, and there are a lot that don't. He is stubborn and a fighter, so I know he will get through this and get on a recovery road to home. I sit and think if I would have not taken him to the emergency room when I did, it would not have been good because he was having a GI bleed. I am just so happy I got him there when I did, and to think we only thought it had something to do with a hernia or maybe even diverticulitis but totally turned out not to be.
Donations can be made to $melissaamh as well. You may contact me through messenger if you would like.
****Update: Randy is experiencing more pain, and they are running more tests to keep an eye on this drain plug for this anastomotic leak. Once he is medically stable per insurance, he will go to a Long Term Rehabilitation Hospital, and they will make a plan for another surgery to correct the leak. But right now, he is not stable enough for a fourth surgery; they said he would not make it through a fourth one right now. So the goal is to get him more tube feedings and nutrition to his stomach and rehab so he can have the fourth surgery. This could take a long while, and we do not know how long. I will update as we know more.
Pictures are from after the 2nd and 3rd surgery. The 2 strokes he had during or post the 2nd surgery have affected him cognitively. Please donate any amount you can to help with Randy's journey to recovery. We appreciate anything, even if it is just prayers. We need all the prayers we can get right now.
You can also donate privately just send me a message on Facebook messenger i have cash app and venmo. thank you
