The Threads Between Worlds
She’s not ready—but her brother’s soul can’t wait.
Hi, I’m Katrina Fochua Lee, and I’m writing a YA fantasy novel filled with ancestral magic, spirit realms, and the power of love and sacrifice. My dream is to one day see it adapted into an animated film—but first, I need your help to bring the book to life.
About the Story
The Threads Between Worlds follows a young girl named Sia, born into a sacred bloodline of shamans. But when her grandmother—the village’s last protector—passes away sooner than expected, she leaves behind more than grief. She leaves the village exposed to a force they never knew was lurking.
That force is Azra, a dragon spirit known by many names, who has been watching—and waiting. On the day of the grandmother’s passing, Azra marks her next target: Yang, Sia’s first brother. One quiet morning, as Yang goes fishing with his childhood friend Chang, Azra strikes, stealing his soul.
Now, Sia must cross into the spirit realm to save her brother, even though she’s still a fledgling—untrained, unready, and without a master. Entering without guidance could cost her everything, including her own soul. But time is running out, and the ties of family runs deep.
In the spirit realm, long-silent guides begin to awaken, helping her navigate the perilous path ahead. During one of her trials, she meets Tou, a mysterious boy who’s been trapped in the Cavern of Lost Souls for what feels like an eternity. He saves her—but not out of kindness. He was promised freedom—from Azra—into the afterlife… if he ensures she fails to save her brother’s soul.
What begins as a reluctant alliance turns into something deeper. But in a realm full of spirits, nothing is ever as it seems. Along the way, she begins to awaken the shaman within—discovering the power of her guides, the strength she never believed she had, and the compassion that may be her greatest gift of all. In a realm shaped by memory and spirit, her path becomes more than a rescue—it's a reckoning with what it means to truly heal, not merely to fight.
Why I’m Asking for Help

Marketing and promotional tools to help get the word out
But this is more than just a book—it’s a calling.
As a Hmong woman, I come from a culture rich in spirit, tradition, and resilience. Yet for generations, many of us were taught to stay quiet—to care, to support, but not to lead or create. In our community, women have often been seen as caretakers, not providers. When we came to America, so many Hmong women brought with them dreams, intelligence, and talent—but these gifts were often overlooked, dismissed, or stifled. Some, not all, of the men in our community could not see the beauty and potential within us. Many of us ended up in marriages where our light was dimmed, not nurtured.
But things are beginning to change.
When Sunisa Lee became an Olympic gold medalist, it wasn’t just a win for her—it was a victory for all of us. For every Hmong girl who was told to stay in the background. For every woman who was taught to shrink instead of rise. Her achievement lit a fire in our community and reminded us: we, too, can be providers. We can lead. We can create. We can dream—and do.
There are still many who try to repress our voices, to tell us to keep our magic hidden. But that time is over. We can no longer deny the yearning in our souls—the stories, the art, the power we’ve kept buried for so long. The Threads Between Worlds is part of that awakening.
It’s a fantasy story rooted in truth: in the invisible threads that tie us to our ancestors, in the wounds we carry and the healing we seek, in the strength we discover when we stop hiding who we are.
I’ve found my voice—and I hope that voice reaches the ears of many, across all cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds. To anyone who has ever felt repressed, silenced, or unworthy of chasing their dreams—I want this story to remind you that your voice matters too. May The Threads Between Worlds be the spark that gives you the courage to speak your truth and follow your calling.
Your support means more than funding a book—it’s helping amplify a story that longs to inspire others to rise, create, and be seen.
As a thank you, everyone who donates will receive a free eBook or audiobook copy of The Threads Between Worlds. I hope it moves you as deeply as it moved me to write it.
Thank you for believing in me—and in the stories that are ready to rise.
With love and gratitude,
Katrina Fochua Lee
