My name is Sabrina Barroso, and I am the Executive Director of the Student Immigrant Movement (SIM). Since I was 15, I have organized alongside immigrant youth to fight for accessible and affordable education for all, because I believe education is one of the most powerful tools for personal and collective transformation.

Today, I am living that fight. I am proud to be part of Tufts University’s Resumed Education for Adult Learners program, where I’ve successfully completed my first year and begun my second, maintaining a 3.7 GPA while leading SIM full-time. But this semester, Tufts is charging me $3,150, a cost I cannot cover alone given challenging personal circumstances.

This is more than a bill. This is the barrier standing between me and my education. Despite my efforts, Tufts has offered only limited options—none that make it possible for me to continue without support.

That’s why I’m turning to my community—to you. Because I know we move mountains together. Time and again, we’ve proven that when we show up for each other, we create possibilities where there were none.
