I was at my weakest point.... A thought that has crossed my mind so many times over the past weeks. Each time I didn't know if I could find the strength to meet another challenge to my health. The past five years have been a challenge to say the least. Here is a quick listing of the major events in my health story:
• 2005 - Diagnosed with a form of polyposis
•2005 - 2010 - Twice a year colonoscopies were performed to remove multiple polyps
• 2010 - Surgery to:
- remove the colon
- create a "J" pouch
from the small
bowel
- place loop ileostomy
• 2010 - functioned through
ileostomy for 3 mo.
- suffered dehydration
and received fluids
twice a week during
those 3 mo.
• 2010 - Surgery to remove
loop ileostomy and
Restore function
• 2011 - Small bowel blockage
• 2013 - Perforation in J pouch
• 2013 - 2nd perf in J pouch
• 2015 - 40 plus non consecutive days of hospitalization due to J pouch perforations as well as a small bowel perforation.
• 5 major surgeries in 5 years
Through all of this I remembered my true strength doesn't come from where I am or what my circumstances are but rather from a God who loves me and wants the best for me. My current health story began in 2010 with the removal of my colon following a diagnoses of polyposis. My small intestine was utilized for the creation of a reservoir fashioned to form a J- pouch which restores some of the function that was lost with the colon. I have suffered some setbacks over the past few years which resulted in hospital stays but each time I was able to recover and return to my life as a wife and mother. This pattern changed in June of this year however. My J-pouch began leaking internally and I was hospitalized for 14 days. Upon release I had hoped that things would soon return to normal. But it wasn't to be so. I found myself back in the hospital within days with the same problem. The cycle was repeated I got better, came home, I got worse and came back to the hospital. Most of my summer has been in the hospital. My doctors are wonderful but they feel the best thing for me at this point is a visit to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for the best possible treatment and care. Arrangements and scheduling are underway. It's a big step and the financial requirements are uncertain at this time. Many have asked how they might be able to help. Here's one way. Consider giving at my go fund me account to help offset the cost of this trip. Please do not feel obligated to give any money but I would appreciate it if you would "like" it on Facebook or "retweet" on Twitter . You may know others who can help. Thank all of you for everything you have done to be a blessing to me and my family. God bless. Kezia
