Keziah's road to recovery after heart transplant

Donation protected
On October 2, 2014 our beautiful Keziah Grace Jeffrey was born.  Two days after being born doctors discovered that she had a rare congenital heart defect called  Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome which means she was missing the left side of her heart.

She had her first open heart surgery at 3 weeks old at the Masankowski heart institute at the Stollery Children’s hospital in Edmonton. Her second surgery was at 4 months old. What was supposed to be the final surgery was done on March 27 2019. Following that procedure the doctors were so impressed with the results that she was able to go home.

Three and a half months later on July 3, 2019 she was admitted to the Children's hospital in Calgary when she started complaining with a pain on her side.  After doctors conducted several tests we were then given the devastating news, my sweet innocent niece was in complete heart failure.

She was air lifted immediately to the Stollery Children hospital in Edmonton again. Once at the Stollery hospital we were informed that Keziah would need a heart transplant and was put on the transplant list on July 18th 2019  which at that time her heart was operating at 11%. Keziah was then transferred back to the Children’s hospital in Calgary on August 4th where she and her mom stayed as she waited for a donor.

On September 11th  her mom received the call that a donor heart was found.  Keziah was then air lifted immediately back to Edmonton that same day where they performed open heart transplant surgery Thursday September 12th at 2:00 am for over 8 hours. So far, the surgery was a success however Keziah has a long road to recovery ahead of her. Keziah have two older brothers age 7 and 9 that are completely depending on their mother financially and emotionally, however with all that has happened with their baby sister, this has not been feasible.

If you want to help and are able to contribute, funds raised will be used to support transportation, adaptive living and other cost to help support the family.

I am Keziah’s Aunt, and will be managing this page on the behalf of the family.
