Brian's Battle
Donation protected
Brian is 13 years old.
Last year, after a childhood in Cuba, Brian and his family finally joined his cousins in Key West. This past year, Brian learned about life in America while attending HOB Junior High School. Always a happy student, Brian loved his new life here.
Two weeks into this summer, and while doing his yard work job, Brian complained about his foot. Must be his shoes, they told him. But it wasn’t the shoes.
Within a week, Brian found himself at Miami Children’s Hospital and by the following week, he had been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer.
While in shock, the family spent the summer making multiple trips to Miami--at first to admit Brian for testing, and now to admit him for aggressive chemo treatment. This will be followed by radical surgery, and then radiation. The entire process will take a year and the family has committed to a rental near the hospital.
Because everything has happened so quickly, everyone is just trying to navigate the system as best they can.
To assist in the enormous unexpected expenses being encountered, this GoFundMe account has been created. It was only through the kindness of personal loans that the family was able to secure first, last, and security; buy beds; and pay for food and gas. Brian's father Amable Rufin will be able to access this account to use your donations as needed.
Brian’s summer turned out differently than most of ours. And now, he has missed his opening day of the new school year. He will have a very different schooling eperience this year.
Let’s help Brian and his family get through this and make it back to Key West safe and sound. We want Brian to go on to Key West High School one day.
