About 10 months ago my husband begain to present a lump on his throat. After several months of testing he was dignosed with cancer; however, the origin of the cancer couldn't be found. He was treated with chemotherapy and radiation. While it shrank the tumor it did not kill the cancer. Two days before our 10th wedding anniversary, 10/08/16, Kaiser called explaining his caner had spread to stage four. His cancer had metastasized to his lungs. After a difficult weekend the following Tuesday his Dr. called us with the exciting news that Jeremy qualified for a new experimental drug. Keytruda!
Jeremy has received a second opinion from City of Hope. They want to start him on a new drug because his most recent CT scan revealed that it doesn't look like the Keytruda is helping him as much as they had hoped.
City of Hope wants to start him on a drug named Cetuximab. The concern is timing at this point. The drug trial he would start there doesn't start for another month, and the oncologist at CoH
doesn't want Jeremy to go without treatment until then.
The plan at this point is to start him on this new drug at Kaiser, and transition to treatment at CoH.
The mounting cost of our combined medical bills has been a financial burden we have not been able to match. As many of you know I have MS and was recently laid off from my job. The cost of Obama care, and the added bills associated with cancer treatment, has been more than we can afford. My unemployment will run out soon, and I'm am currently looking for a job: however, I don't want a full time job. I want to be home to assist my husband.
My love and compassion goes out to all who have or have had family and friends with cancer it is a horrific experience.
In loving memory of my Uncles, Grandmother, and friends who have lost their battle with this awful disease.
