Teacher In Need: Pauline's Hip Operation!
Donation protected
My mother is the epitome of inner strength and she shows it every day. She's walked with the world on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings, but it's taking its toll and now she needs help.
Hi Everyone! - My name is Christina and I am here to raise the funds for my mother Pauline Watkins hip replacement surgery. Around 10 years ago my mother slipped two discs in her lower back, for those who know someone who has experienced this or has had the displeasure of experiencing this pain before will know how truly difficult and scary it is. After recovering from this unfortunate ordeal, my mother was struck with osteoarthritis, which took over her body, causing continuous aches and pains. My only thought was attempting a holistic approach, I tried everything, LITERALLY EVERYTHING, plant-based diets, all the natural oils, yoga, and alternative medicines, yet, nothing helped her.
But, being a strong Christian woman she soldiered on, after various doctor's appointments I could see all they were offering was pain management, I've never despised a phrase more in my life other than ‘pain management’. When a doctor prescribes up to 20 pills a day for you to take for the rest of your life with a number of side effects, it's scary. But, I realised beneath my anger was fear, because with these after effects, still, nothing helped.
Following years of watching pain rob my mother's life, I've seen her health deteriorate before my very eyes. Her pain went from a limp after the slipped disc's, to her using crutches, to a walking stick and now she can barely walk for 3 minutes before having to stop. As a woman unable to look after herself, I can see her self-esteem declining day - by - day. I've had to watch this crippling pain, rob her of her life, as she is no longer living but merely existing.
My mother's next option is a wheelchair and I can't bear to see my Mothers life take this unforgiving turn. This relentless, excruciating pain, has caused my mother several sleepless nights and as a trainee mental health practitioner I know the awful effects it's having on her mental state daily.
However, every day she gets up as a front-line worker and does the job that she loves which is teaching the next generation. Those that have the pleasure of knowing my mother will know that she is the brightest, bubbliest, happiest, slightly crazy but an absolute joy to be around. But over the last few years, I've seen fewer smiles, less happiness, and the bright light behind her eyes perish. It's heartbreaking to be around and watch someone I love so dearly become victim to their own body.
This is the reason why I am here, my mother is a key worker, through the pandemic with all her pain she has pushed through and kept on teaching. I'm confident enough to say that she has taught over 1000 students during her 20-year long career. She is a blessing to all that connect and speak with her and right now she needs the help of those she knows and those that understand her story.
My mother has been told that the only way her chronic pain will lessen is through hip replacement surgery. A glimmer of hope shone into the lives of my family (The Watkins family) when my mother was given the dates for her surgery, the end of 2020. It made 2021 look like it was going to be the first year in a decade without pain, and COVID 19 quickly dimmed that light for us and I'm sure for many families. It seems like time is never on our side, so here we are in January 2021, back to no sign of when the crippling, chronic ordeal will come to an end.
Therefore, the only option is to go private which will cost £17,000, I know this is a lot of money but I have to believe in something for the sake of my mother's sanity. My only hope is the selfless acts from my mother over the years will bring forth generosity, help, love, and care her way, when she needs it the most.
So I'm asking, to those who have read thus far, anything to help free my mother from this cloud of darkness would be greatly appreciated. I refuse to let anything that is not peace, happiness and joy destroy my mother's life any further and I'm hoping you can help!
Your contribution, whatever the amount, will ensure that this goal is successful. If you are unable to donate, I ask that you share this with as many people as possible to give my mother the best chance of raising £17,000 and receiving her life-changing surgery.
I appreciate, love, and pray 2021 will be good to you all.
Thank you in advance and God Bless
