Just wanted to put in an update. Jay is home, but he is still in bad shape. He's putting on a brave face, but he is still hurting pretty bad. We will need the Mortgage for May also. The funds we are trying to raise are for bills. We still haven't had a paycheck since March 22, when Jay fell, and it doesn't look like we'll have a paycheck anytime soon. Thank You so much for putting some appts. on the calendar at the shop. Ross and I are working hard to keep up the same standards you are used to, and we have the same techs in the back doing a great job, we need your cars back. Jay calls all the time now so trust me when I say he is wanting to get back to you. This weekend some of the community helped clear the rotting stairs and built a nice sturdy set of stairs this weekend so he can get outside safely. Your support has so been very helpful through all this. We will always be indebted to the community who has supported us in such thoughtful ways. Don't forget the shop still needs your support.
Jay has had 2 cat scans an MRI along with spinal cord surgery and weeks of physical and orthopedic therapies. He is unable to walk on his own. He can barely use his hands, he cannot hold a wrench or a pen. He will be in a neck brace from the surgery for at least 3 months. He is trying really hard to get back to work but he is in really bad shape. Our home is in jeopardy but Jay may lose the shop. We cannot pay the bills. We need help now!
We are short on the Mortgage and Utilities at the house along with the $5000.00 that we need to keep the shop landlord from taking the shop from us. Of course the hour long commute to see Jay has taken it's toll financially in gas and toll fees. We are doing what we can to keep the Shop open which is what is most important to Jay and the community we are working so hard to serve. We will also need help with bills, we have a power shut off notice for April 28th and the Mortgage and Lease were due on the 15th. We have borrowed what we can and need help to keep our children in their home and a shop open for Jay to come home to. The bills are piling up and we haven't had a paycheck in 2 months. Jay is always donating to the local organizations and has never asked for help. Jay loses money on every oil changes to give relief to our neighbors and it may cost him his livelihood.
We need help fixing the stairs that have a railing that is not nearly sturdy enough to help a man his size get in and out of his home safely. They need to be a deeper step so that he can brace himself for the next step, especially going down them. Also the back stairs are falling in, along with the deck that keeps him from stepping into water at the bottom of the staircase. We had these exact problems on our summer honey-do list, but now we cannot afford to do these fixes and Jay cannot help in working on these manual chores, as he is unable to hold things in his hands and is not able to build his own staircase.
Jay's wife and their 16yr old son, who knows little to nothing about mechanics or the business, have been trying very hard to fill the shoes of a man who has worked on cars for nearly 40 yrs. Our son has done well with the computer program aspect of the job and is learning more about this part of Jay's life every day, but he has had to nearly drop out of school to do this; possibly jeopardizing his graduation. We are figuring out more about the shop every day but since we have never known any part of this aspect of Jay's life, the business is feeling the affects. Our 14 yr old son has been taking care of himself at home and tending to many of the house chores as I have been trying to tend to the business, house and visiting Jay when I can.
It was just one of those fluke things, Jay was playing with the dog and tripped, falling face first onto the floor without catching himself. He ended up bruising his spine and has been hospitalized since March 22. He has had surgery on his spinal cord to relieve some of the pressure off of his spinal column and has been doing in-patient therapy for weeks, but he still can't walk on his own or use his hands well enough to return to the job he enjoys doing for the community that he obviously loves so very much.
KCAR and it's families would like to Thank You for your consideration and hope that this day brings many happy blessings to you and those you Love.
