We have cared for Kev for 24 Years. During this time Kev has become a true part of our family with the support of his biological family. When Kev took ill he went to the hospital and has been in and out of ICU for 27 days and counting.
We, as Kevs Foster Parents, support Kev 24/7 in the hospital as his (and guardians) translators, eyes and ears during his care. We help him communicate with the nurses and doctors when he has been awake. We keep his guardians apprised of his care on a daily basis and sometimes multiple times a day. Kev is non-verbal and using his own form of communication and "there are only 3 people in this world that know it" according to his brother and guardian. Those 3 people are us his foster parents and our bio son (who you see in the photos) who has grown up with Kev. Being we have cared for him for 24 years we know him best and knowing how to interoperate his behaviors for happy, board, or pain is highly needed in this case. This is why we promised Kev and his family that no matter the outcome we would always be there for Kev in the hospital to allow him to feel safe and know that he is loved.
Not only did we care for him but went through the emotional ups and downs in his hospital stay. He had 2 emergency surgeries where we were told to prepare to suffer the worst. He had 2 schedule surgeries to make it 4 in 3 weeks. He had other medical situations that were very severe. We did not leave Kev so he would not be alone during these times or scared of what was happening. Sleeping in this hospital room to make sure he knew we love him and he is safe while he is in a strange place and not his home.
While Kev is in the hospital with us staying with him and caring for his needs we are not paid for our services. Not only that we supply our own parking fund and food budget eating 3 meals a day in the cafeteria or door dash. Also during this time we are not paid for our care of him 24/7 even though we are there for him, which means we have lost a part of our income during this challenging time.
If you have anything to give we would appreciate it. If you can only pray and share our story that is also a blessing.

Brady and Kev are best buddies!

Update on Kev's progress. He is now out of the ICU but still in Critical Care Unit. He is doing well. He will need a lot of physical therapy to get him home. We are praying for another miracle that his strength returns to him in a super natural way. He doesn't have much to do in the hospital as he doesn't play games or color any longer due to his eye site. Therefore the days can be long. He listens to TV and interacts with us for entertainment.
