Kev’s fight against ATRT (Brain Cancer)

This fundraiser is to support the young family of Greg Treanor, Nicole Unsworth and Kevin Treanor during their fight against ATRT cancer.

Kev is an 11 month old baby boy from Orange NSW, with a laugh and smile that lights up any room he is brought into.

On 26th October 23, Kevin was taken to hospital with loss of balance and vomiting, what was originally a routine trip to the hospital quickly turned into the devastating news that Kev had fluid on his brain and a large brain tumor. He was flown to the Westmead Children's Hospital where he underwent further testing and brain surgery to remove the brain tumour.

Kevin's surgery went smoothly however, the biopsy results returned and on 2nd November he was diagnosed with ATRT, a rare form of brain cancer.

Atypical Teratiod Rhabdiod Tumor or ATRT (https://www.cancer.gov/rare-brain-spine-tumor/tumors/atrt) has a five year survival rate of 32.2% overall, however in infants diagnosed under the age of 3 this survival rate drops to down to 10%.

Kev is a little fighter to say the least and while recovery from surgery has introduced many challenges, he has already shown so much resilience throughout this whole process - traits he no doubt got from his incredibly strong parents who have spent sleepless nights by his bedside in the ICU advocating for him and researching nonstop to make sure he is getting the absolute best care.

While there is the most amazing team at Westmead looking after Kevin and building a treatment plan for the agonising months of chemo to come, we know that he will need to spend an extensive amount of time in the hospital, 4 hours from home.
