My name is Kevin Kostka (33, M), and I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in March of 2023. After undergoing a stem cell transplant that following July, I relapsed roughly six months later. I was taken off of my immunosuppressant regiment to help my grafted cells combat the cancer. While this did indeed help, I developed Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD) of the liver, which is also quite serious, as a result. GVHD can further develop and manifest itself in nearly any variety of ways, which has resulted in my admission to the hospital several times over the last few months.
As my schedule and health or so erratic while my doctors try to keep my GVHD in check, while retaining my remission at the same time, I am very much unable to work for the time being. Technically, I'm still employed with my current company, under a long term leave of absence, but have exhausted my disability with them. I am presently applying for federal disability, but the process is quite lengthy and involved, and I'm in a pretty tight spot financially until then.
I am very averse to asking for handouts, but am doing this for my family's benefit as much as my own. My mother, father, and myself have been through a lot over the last 13 months, and any sort of relief I can provide them (with your help) would surely not go unappreciated. I know it's a common cliche, but truly, every little bit helps.
Thank you all for your time and consideration!
