Kevin's Journey to Overcome Lymphedema

Hello, my name is Kevin. For most of my life, my left leg had always been slightly bigger than my right. I never thought too much of it as it didn’t cause any major issues in life. Fast forward to early 2019 when all of a sudden, my legs started ballooning to abnormally large sizes and discharging a clear fluid. I went through several rounds of testing until we landed on a diagnosis of lymphedema. Lymphedema, as it sounds, is a problem in your lymph nodes that causes mass amounts of fluid retention, causing the swelling of whatever extremities are afflicted, in my case, both my legs. There are two kinds of lymphedema (born with it or onset) and I was (un)lucky enough to be born with the genetic anomaly that causes it. It was just a ticking time bomb that suddenly went off. Needless to say, it’s SEVERELY hampered my life. It’s caused masses of tissue to form on my upper legs that make it almost impossible to walk normally. My life has been severely decayed due to this and I can barely get around without the help of a mobility aid.

There is therapy to help alleviate the symptoms, which I did weekly for almost 2 years until it became too much of a burden on my body to continue. After much research, we have found that there is a surgery that can remove the lymphedema and reroute my lymphatic system to stop any future tissue build-up. That’s where this GoFundMe comes in.

The closest facility able to do the procedure is 4 hours away and with recovery time, I would need to stay up there several weeks and my insurance doesn’t cover housing. The fund will be used to cover accommodations before and after the surgeries as I recover. There will be a separate surgery for both right and left legs. Having lymphedema has severely lessened my quality of life and this surgery will allow me to move on and actually be a functioning member of society again.

Any and all donations, no matter how small, or even if you just donate your time by sharing this post, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for listening.
