Kevin’s Highway to Healing

Our dad: Kevin, Big Kev, Kevin & Co, the ringleader of our pack, was hospitalized on May 23rd after a terrible fall in his home. He was at JFK Hospital for over 2 months until he was moved to Encompass Rehabilitation Facility. He was finally able to go home on August 22nd, almost 3 months to the day of being inpatient.

From the fall, he suffered 7 broken ribs, a punctured artery between his ribs and lung, and 2 fractured vertebrae in his spine. While trying to heal, he was sedated for an extensive period of time and had a trach placed in his throat to assist with cleaning out the puncture wound. He needed a blood transfusion after losing blood from the feeding line that was placed. He continued to lose nearly all his muscle mass from being bedridden, and the road to recovery is going to be a long one.

While we are incredibly grateful he is home, his home care will be quite expensive, on top of the medical bills from his 3 months of hospitalization. We also need to make sure he has the proper handicap-accessible equipment in his home for his safety and comfort.

He has a very long road ahead, beyond anything we could have ever imagined. If you know our dad, you have to agree he deserves the absolute best treatment and care. He would never ask for help, but we are, because the cost of this care will be way more than any of us can come up with, but he truly needs and deserves the best.

Big Kev is the man everyone shows up for when he's singing his heart out & it's our prayer and hope you can all show up for him the same way during this extremely difficult time.
