Update

With the recent diagnosis of terminal stage 4 papillary kidney cancer (type 2), our focus has shifted. It’s no longer about fighting for a cure — it’s about making the most of the time we have left. Our goal now is to create meaningful memories, spend quality time together, and make every moment count.

We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received so far. Any help — big or small — allows us to fund these precious moments and take some of the financial stress off our shoulders as we navigate this heartbreaking journey.

Thank you for being part of our story.

Help Kevin Through His Fight — From Back Pain to a Cancer Diagnosis

I never imagined I’d be writing something like this. But here we are, and we need help.

This all started with what seemed like ordinary back pain back in February. Kevin’s had a bad back before, like a lot of us so he pushed through, kept working, thinking it would pass. In March, he slipped on some stairs and things got worse. Still, he kept going, even as the pain became unbearable.

Finally, in May, he went to a walk in clinic. They told him it was Degenerative Disc Disease, sent him home with some meds, no refills, and a referral for a CT scan. He doesn’t have a family doctor to turn to, so options felt limited.

But by June 22nd, Kevin couldn’t take it anymore. The pain was so severe, and his leg had started going numb. He went to Emergency that night just hoping to get his prescription renewed. But because of how bad things had gotten, they decided to do a CT scan.

That scan changed everything.

They found three fractures in his spine, lesions throughout his vertebrae and hip bone, and a dangerously inflamed lymph node tucked behind his kidney, resting on his aorta. Suddenly, we weren’t talking about back pain anymore. We were talking about cancer.

Since then, Kevin has been admitted to hospital, where they’re working hard just to keep his pain under control. He’s been through endless tests…. blood work, CT scans, endoscopy, and most recently, a bone biopsy. His diagnosis came back on July 17th: It’s cancer. Malignant.

We still don’t know what kind or where it started, which is terrifying in itself. But now, The Cancer Agency and oncology teams are involved. We’re finally moving toward answers and a treatment plan.

Through all of this, Kevin has been nothing but strong, even while in pain I can’t even imagine. He’s switched to fentanyl patches to help control the pain enough that he might finally come home soon, but this is just the beginning.

Kevin can’t work. I’m doing everything I can to support him, but medical appointments, medications, transportation, bills, and day to day living costs are adding up fast. And we know this fight won’t be over quickly.

If you’re able to help in any way financially, by sharing this, or just through sending love and support we would be beyond grateful. Every little bit helps.

I’ll keep sharing updates as we walk this uncertain road. Thank you for reading, and for standing beside us.
