All my friends, I really need your help fast!
Meet Kevin, if you haven't already. This is my baby boy. I got him as a baby because we were told he had a heart murmur and I knew I could give him a loving home. He quickly became part of me, he means the world to me.
He’s been there with me through so much, and we’ve been through so much with him. Anyone who’s had the chance to meet him knows how loving and eccentric he is.
He was originally diagnosed with pulmonic stenosis where the valve doesn’t let enough blood into the heart, but it turns out it’s actually worse than that. He has excess tissue at the entrance to his heart blocking the blood from coming in through the valve.
We just had him seen by a cardiologist at the Vet Hospital in PEI, in fact, we are still here trying to figure out how to get him help. I’m hoping to raise enough money to get him a balloon heart valve surgery to help him live a better quality of life. This surgery will essentially open the flow of blood into the heart. It is not permanent, it will not extend his life but it will significantly improve the quality of life for the time he has left.
It’s so hard to not be able to do everything for him, or to fix him and make him all better. The hard truth is that what’s wrong with his heart is not operable here in Canada, but we can get this balloon valve surgery, which will significantly help him in his remaining few years.
I want to be able to get him this surgery just to improve his quality of life even for a year. That will mean he will be able to run, go for walks, play with other dogs without getting extremely exhausted. Right now his life looks like this; if he plays with a dog, he sleeps for 3-4 days after barely eating. So we’ve been avoiding that. He can’t go on a walk longer than 20 minutes before he can barely continue. For his personality and his love for life, this is no way to live.
So I’m asking please help me make my fur baby more comfortable for the small amount of time he may be here.
