Kevin Vlaun’s Kidney Transplant Recovery
Donation protected
Back in May 2019, Kevin Vlaun was surfing at home in Florida, when he felt his heart racing abnormally. After speaking to his wife Christa, they decided to go to the emergency room where they got the news he was in end stage renal failure and would need dialysis immediately, 3x a week to live until he could get a donor for a kidney transplant.
After visiting with a team at NY Presbyterian/Weill Cornell hospital in July, the wheels were in motion for the transplant process to begin. His mother, Lynn Burgess is a match and will be donating her kidney. They both will be undergoing transplant surgery on October 10th 2019.
A kidney is a second chance at life, but it’s not a cure. Kevin will be on anti-rejection medication from here on out and unable to work while recovering as well as frequent travel expenses to see the transplant team in New York City for follow up care.
Kevin and his family are so grateful for all the love and support of their family and friends. They would not be to this point without all of you! Any help would be so appreciated as they continue to navigate this new way of life.
