Kevin Taylor's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Hello Team,

It is with a heavy heart we are sending out this email. AFDE’s own Kevin Taylor is fighting for his life.

On Nov 24th Kevin left Fort St John headed back to Creston a couple days early due to some back/shoulder pains. On Nov 26th Kev was admitted to the Creston hospital and then transferred to Trail hospital on Nov 27th. After further investigation he was shipped to Kelowna hospital Nov 29th and even further to the ICU at Vancouver General on Dec 2nd.

Doctors found a staph infection had riddled itself throughout his body in a manner they've never seen. Besides being spread through various body parts it was infecting the leads of his defibrillator making an abscess on his tricuspid valve in the heart. Every beat of his heart circulated infection via his blood.

They've already had to perform multiple surgeries: from debridement of infection in his joints, removing his defibrillator, to opening his C2-4 in his neck to relieve pressure on his spinal cord due to an abscess from the staph bacteria.

The results of all the stress on the body have created bleeding ulcers which resulted in an additional operation and poor kidney function.

Kevin is currently intubated, on dialysis and has more surgeries to get through in the next bit.

After touching base with his family, they said despite all that’s he gone through he is still somehow able to crack a smile when they walk through the doors.

If you know Kevin, you know that smile.

His wife Toni, daughter Angela, son Rob and Granddaughter Alyx are all supporting his as much as possible. Toni is staying in Vancouver for the duration of Kevin's recovery and kids will be back and forth from Vancouver to Creston to support their mom.

We anticipate that this will be a long road of healing for Kevin and his family.  We are reaching out to all of you now to help us rally together and support one of our very own in that amazing AFDE family fashion.

Any donation you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Once again thank you for being so generous to one of our own. We will make sure to keep you updated as we get more information.

Happy Holidays to you and your families,
