Kevin Shaver Memorial
Donation protected
Kevin was an avid lover of the outdoors and camping. Kevin met up with his good friend Chase (they called themselves brothers) They had a special spot that they liked to go often up in the mountains near the Bagby Hot Springs and Timothy Lake. They left On January first to go for 2 days and assured family that they were well prepared with firewood, food, mummy bag to go "camping in the snow" .On Thursday when they had not returned, the family knew that something was terribly wrong. Parents Kathy and Patrick and sister Kimberly headed up the mountain area to coordinate with the Clackamas County Sheriff's department and multiple Facebook posts were made asking everyone they knew for help. Friends of both Kevin and his friend Chase came to help search that first night and then had to return home. Parents Kathy and Patrick slept in their vehicle from 3am to 6am and began the search for their son again. On Friday more and more people were able to search. Patrick's volunteer fire department, Kathy's Dad and Mike Shaver came to help search. Halfway through the day, Chase's vehicle was spotted in the Calawash River and it was almost immediately known that neither had survived due to the strong current and the freezing temperatures. At that point most of the friends and family left the mountain but Kathy and Patrick stayed throughout the night needing confirmation but also hoping an praying for a miracle. Late afternoon the following day the authorities were able to determine the identity of both boys. Parents returned home to start the process of making loving preparations for their beloved son. Our hearts are breaking. You save for a college fund, you help your kids any way you can financially or otherwise but nothing prepares you for this. Please keep our family in your prayers. If you have the means to be able to donate for the funeral arrangements and burial expenses all money raised will go to help cover these expenses. Thank you and God bless. We are so very proud of Kevin, he was an exceptional son and had so much to live for. We are thankful we told him often how proud we are of him.
