Kevin Reid Advance T Cell Leukaemia Lymphoma
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Fiona and I am fundraising to help Kevin in his fight with ATLL. Kevin is 55 and was diagnosed Hogmanay 2021 with what was thought to be lymphoma. Treatment begun in January 22 when he took a turn for the worst and he ended up in hospital for 17 days. They begun his chemo treatment, RCHOP. He didn’t seem to be responding but we fought on. After a PET scan it was discovered that he had new hot spots on his bones and a different treatment was started (IVE). 6 rounds later again the PET scan found some more hot spots. It was then discovered that Kevin had a very rare cancer called advance T cell lymphoma leukaemia, this is tied back to a blood virus called HTLV1. It is extremely rare in the UK with most cases in Africa or China. We have no idea as to how he ended up with this virus but it is suspected it dates back to blood transfusions he received when born. There is no cure for this cancer and his only hope is a stem cell transplant but this has been cancelled once already due to the discovery of the HTLV-1 virus. The Imperial Hospital in London are advising Raigmore Hospital in Inverness as they have never treated this type of cancer before. He is currently in a new anti-body treatment called Brentuximab with the hope that this will attack the cancerous T cells and enable him to undertake a stem cell transplant. Kevin has always been very active, a painter and decorator to trade, amateur footballer for many local teams in Inverness and a very proud Deputy Commandant of the Local Army Cadet Force (1 Highlander’s Battalion ACF) of whom he has served as a cadet and adult for over 40 years. It is devastating to see what Kevin has become and he is a shadow of his former self/ I am asking for help so as I can try and fulfill his little bucket list and to spend some time making memories with his son and daughter. He is an avid Glasgow Rangers supporter and I am trying to get him to Ibrox, maybe for the last time to see his beloved team, he also wants to get married (we have been together 18 years) there are many little things I would love to do for him but anything that you can help with would be appreciated. I know everyone is feeling the pinch just now but if you could help me make some memories for him I would be eternally grateful.
