Kevin Lathwell Family
First and foremost, the Lathwell family is grateful for all the love and support they have felt over the last few weeks. They are so thankful for all the prayers and well wishes.
To know Kevin is to love him. If you have met this guy, he has no doubt greeted you with a hearty handshake and a beaming smile. He is a father to twelve children and is an integral part of each of their lives. He is especially selfless in his care for their littlest Anthony, Dylan, and Zoe. With their diagnoses of Downs Syndrome/Autism they depend on him greatly for their daily specialized physical and emotional needs. Kevins recent diagnosis will inevitably change their daily lives in a big way.
October of 2023 Kevin was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, caught only by a routine PSA screening for his annual physical. Biopsy showed Gleason 9 Grade 5. The cancer is stage IV. It has spread to his lymph nodes, hips and spine. This is an especially aggressive form of the disease. Unfortunately, at this stage there is no cure, only treatments to manage the disease. He will be treated at Johns Hopkins.
So, as people have reached out offering love and prayers, many have also asked, “How can I help?” and “What can I send?” We have arranged this Gofundme page to provide an outlet for people to donate.
This money will be used in several ways. First, we are hoping and praying for a miracle. It has been a desire for the Lathwells to take their son Anthony to Lourdes for some time now. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in Southern France is the site of 70 medical miracles recognized by the Catholic Church. They are seeking healing for Kevin, Cindy and Anthony. Anthony has Down Syndrome, and Autism- he is non-verbal and requires a special diet. His life has been full of many struggles even in addition to his dual diagnosis. Kevin and Cindy have gone to the ends of the earth to improve his quality of life, tried every medication, even getting him a highly trained service dog. Even still, he struggles daily. Since Kevins diagnosis the desire to send Kevin Cindy and Anthony to Lourdes has become a source of hope in a seemingly hopeless situation.
Any additional funds will go towards hospital bills, and travel expenses as they are quickly accruing. Really, we just want Kevin and Cindy to focus on getting better. If we could ease the financial burden, it would be just one of many they are shouldering during this difficult time.
No donation is too big or too small. Please also send lots of love, positive messages, and prayers as the family needs as much strength and encouragement as possible. We thank you with love.
