Kevin Keegan Statue Memorial Fundraiser

Donation protected

The Iron Trust is fundraising for a Kevin Keegan memorial statue at the birthplace of his glittering career, in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

We are raising funds to commemorate the great, late, Kevin Keegan, following the sad news of his passing on the 20th July, aged 75, with a people's memorial and statue to be located in Scunthorpe, the home of the Iron, the club at which Kevin began his football career.

Kevin left Scunthorpe United for Liverpool in 1971, and went on to play for Hamburg SV, Southampton and his beloved Newcastle United. Kevin's career would reach even greater heights with 63 caps for England and two Ballon d'Or wins.

The Iron Trust invites fans of Scunthorpe United, Liverpool, Hamburg SV, Southampton and Newcastle, as well as football fans around the world to donate towards a lasting memorial at the birthplace of King Kev's extraordinary football career.

About the Iron Trust

The Iron Trust was formed in April 2012, with the backing of the football club, an open meeting was held at Glanford Park in December 2011 at which participants voted for the formation of the Trust. Members have been able to join since July 2012.

A supporters trust is a democratic not-for-profit organisation of supporters, committed to strengthening the decision-making process at a club. It is legally registered and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and can hold assets like a company can. The Trust is also an affiliate member of the Football Supporters Association (FSA).

What does the Trust do?

We have worked hard to ensure Scunthorpe United Football Club focus on fan-friendly policies. We a hold regular meetings with the board of directors and senior club staff, putting forward the views of our members on how the club is run.

We purchase shares in Scunthorpe United Football Club on behalf of our members (currently 600 shares), enabling us to attend general shareholder meetings to represent them. We invite members to put questions to the board, and will report back to members on the response.

The Trust has:

  • More than 1,200 current members
  • Owns £12,000 worth of shares in Scunthorpe United club
  • Donated thousands of pounds to local charitable causes

Who runs the trust?

The board holds regular meetings. Any member of the Trust is eligible to stand for the board.

Is the Trust a democratic organisation?

The Trust is open and transparent. It is regulated by the FCA and provides audited annual accounts. Any members can put themselves forward to be elected to the board. We believe fans are moral owners of clubs, and a trust could ensure they are also legal owners.
