My dad was an amazing person. He fought every day to make sure his family was taken care of, even on days when he wasn't feeling 100%. He was a science fiction book reader, a dungeons and dragons game master, loved Star Wars, Star Trek, anything Marvel/DC related, and spending time with his family.
We ultimately cannot afford to give my dad, the proper respect and burial that he deserves for taking care of his family for as long as he did. It pains me to ask but we need help.
In 2007, Dad was diagnosed with skin cancer on the ear, melanoma. We were lucky and blessed as a family to get through it and had immense support from our church, friends, and extended family. Shortly after I graduated high school in 2016, Dad lost his job at MGM, where he was working for 18 years. During this time, it was a struggle for the whole family; we were in extreme budget mode. After delaying it as long as we could, we lost our house in North Torrance in March of 2020. We were blessed to be able to find a house to rent that we could afford.
However, in life there are ups and downs. Dad was diagnosed with kidney disease in late 2019/ early 2020. Later on, in January 2024, dad started dialysis. He was going to work and started 4.5 hours of dialysis on top of it, 3x a week.
In times of need, my dad always did his best to help everyone he could, So today I ask you all to help us honor the life of Kevin Cubley.
Ultimately, he passed away at Torrance Memorial, early 5.4.25, and became one with the force.
"It is with a heavy heart that I share with you all that my dad passed away. He was so special to us all and was very lucky to have all four of his children and his wife with him in the last moments. Our dad was such a light in our life, sharing with us all his many passions and talents. He radiated kindness, compassion, and understanding, only to be surpassed by his sarcasm.
I love you, Dad.
5.4.2025"
My younger sister Taryn shared this, and it summarizes everything about Dad in the most beautiful way.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your help and support during this difficult time.
