Kevin was living a great life in Chicago with his wife, Katie, twin girls, Maeve and Molly (10) and son, JT (9). He had a fulfilling job that used all of his creative and technical skills. He is the one who always makes his five siblings laugh, diffusing any emotionally charged situation with a joke. In June 2019, he woke up with searing stomach pain and thought he needed to have his appendix out. Instead, he found out (what we already knew to be true) that he is one in a million and so is his cancer. He was told he had Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP, also know as "Jelly Belly"), an incredibly rare (yes, one in a million) cancer that was eating up his abdominal cavity.
Since then, he has undergone chemotherapy, surgery in March 2020 (resulting in partial removal of his liver, spleen, and intestines), and now he is facing an uphill battle in keeping these strange, small, gelatinous tumors at bay. He was let go from his work in December (while he was undergoing chemo) and his wife, Katie, has assumed the duties as his primary care nurse. Now, he is set to join a clinical trial at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston that may save his life.
Those of you who know Kevin know that he is not the type of guy to ask for anything. He’s the one always making us feel better about our lives. He just got stuck in a situation that no one could have foreseen. Supporting him and his family right now will allow them to focus on helping Kevin heal without the stress and worry of the mounting medical and travel expenses that are needed as they face this challenge. We, his friends and family, thank you for anything that can help ease his family's struggle. We understand that these are trying times and no amount is too small.
Please keep Kevin and his family in your thoughts and prayers. We know the power of positivity and community will get him and his family through this very difficult and trying time.
