As many of you know, Kevin has been in the hospital for over a month. Kevin would never ask for help with medical expenses, but we are trying to help where we can! Here is a message from the family:
"To those who have reached out to check on Kevin, we want to say thank you and provide a bit of an update:
In May, Kevin’s heart suffered what’s been coined an “electrical/VT storm”, causing him to have to be shocked 22 times. He was intubated ~ a week, then moved to cardiac step down once stable enough. While the family is still waiting for the genetic testing results, His team believes he has a genetic mutation causing Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT).
While Kevin’s heart issues are seemingly under control with his new medication regimen, he also experienced a severe cognitive decline, including but not limited to epileptiform seizures, hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia.
Kevin has been diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis, and his care team has done an excellent job explaining how this disease is progressing and manifesting. Essentially, his immune system is attacking his brain and has had residual effects on his neurological and cardiovascular systems.
While there is still a lot to be learned about this disease, we do know that this is a problem that Kevin has been battling for a long time, per his neurologist’s explanation, that has had a slow and insidious onset.
His care team knows they are heading in the right direction as his seizures have stopped, but they have told us the psychological and neurological issues take much longer to resolve, and Kevin still has a long road to recovery."
The family has let us know that Kevin will be in the hospital for another 3-4 weeks (at the least), and we can only imagine the financial strain this has placed on the family. We are asking our friends to help us support them during this time, as they have always been so generous in supporting those they care about. No number is too small - every little bit helps!
