Kevin Blask's Fire Recovery Fundraiser

Donation protected
On Monday, October 21st, 2019 at approximately 10:45 p.m.  my son (Kevin Blask) was asleep at the residence he rents on 16th Street in Mt. Pleasant, WI.   A fire broke out at the rear of the house and flames engulfed the back (primary) entrance/exit. Due to the rapid spreading of the fire and the front exit being obstructed Kevin woke up and had to jump threw a fixed glass window to escape.  Thankfully Mt. Pleasant Police and South Shore Fire Department personnel were arriving on scene and pulled him away from the fire.  He sustained multiple cuts and lacerations from jumping out the window. Due to being inside for an extended period of time Kevin suffered severe carbon monoxide poisoning, smoke inhalation and also sustained some internal 2nd degree burns in his throat and upper lungs.

Kevin was transported by ambulance to Ascension All Saints hospital in Racine.  He was immediately moved to the Intensive Care Unit where he is on a ventilator and has been in a medically induced coma since his admission.  Medical staff advised they are hoping to remove his intubation tube sometime next week (Week of October 28th). This won't occur until the swelling in his throat goes down.  He has several medical hurdles to overcome and it is unknown at this time how long his recovery will take as he is still unconscious.

Sadly Kevin lost everything in the fire. This includes his beloved dog and best friend Choco (pictured).  The EMS personnel on scene did everything they could to resuscitate and save Choco but were unsuccessful.  Once Kevin gets released from the hospital he will have to continue some medical care and rehabilitation.

Kevin unfortunately did not have renters insurance coverage and has to rebuild his life's possessions from the ground up. He recently became unemployed and I know he would appreciate any assistance offered.  Anyone that knows Kevin would tell you he would give you the shirt off his back even if it was the only one he had. He has demonstrated this time and time again. He is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. We appreciate this opportunity to come together and help Kevin get through this very difficult time.

Thank you all for your time and consideration.  This is truly a tragedy for Kevin and any assistance is greatly appreciated.  Please keep Kevin in your prayers on this road to healing and recovery.
