Kevin Bingham’s Legacy

If you Google the word tragedy it will tell you that it's an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe.

What it won't tell you is OUR story...while on a mission trip in South Africa.

On June 28, 2018 --  we were finishing our last ministry site where we had tons of the local children from Msawawa hear great stories of God's love. As the team was heading back to the bus, tragedy appeared. Our dear friend and Elder at our church, City Grace (Lathrup Village, Michigan), suffered a massive and sudden heart attack and fell facedown. Within seconds Janice my wife began CPR. We have a van waiting so he is loaded and rushed to the hospital.  In the ER, Kevin's heart wouldn't come back.

Kevin Bingham, age 54, faithful servant of God, a USA Veteran, loving husband and father, unexpectedly passed away.

All of our hearts were shattered into a million pieces. His teenage daughter Malaya was also on this trip. This isn't supposed to happen.  Not to us. Not here. Not Kevin. Not now. Kevin is supposed to live a long time where he is old and grey. Why??? I have been asking God and praying for understanding but I'm always faced with the reality of my FINITE mind trying to fully understand an INFINITE God.

As followers of Jesus, we grieve. We mourn. We hurt.
But not like everyone else does. We have eternal Hope. Hope not as in wishful thinking but a confidence that leads to actions. Yes, we grieve at this loss but also rejoice in the very fact that because of Jesus's own life, death, burial and resurrection, Kevin went to sleep. His earthly body stopped and he awoke in God's presence. Just like that. We will rejoice with him again.

As Kevin's life was laid down doing the very thing he was so passionate about, helping others find and follow Jesus, may we too turn outward and not inward throughout this process. Tell those around you that you love them. Let go of petty grievances. Fully love and serve out of the same that Jesus has shown us.

-- Pastor Johnny Best

He is survived by his wife Amy, his son Devin and his daughter Malaya.
The main photo was taken as Amy and Devin said their goodbyes.

This GoFundMe page was set up to help their family cover the many unexpected expenses: from bringing his body home to Michigan from South Africa, the cost of funeral/burial, to the day to day expenses in their household as they have been hit with a sudden loss of significant income.

Kevin is the taller man on the left in the photo. Here he was sharing his story of God's love for him and how Jesus wants to do the same for these ladies.
