Kevin Athmann- The Journey of a Warrior

4 years, 1 month, 12 days cancer free before they received the news.

After several weeks of feeling under the weather (everyone in the house had something or the other), Kevin opted to schedule an appointment on February 8th to get checked out. COVID, influenza and RSV tests were negative. Though CBC results were “off” with white blood cells and platelets reduced, the physician chocked it up to a viral infection and potential sinus infection. Antibiotics were prescribed and he was instructed to return should symptoms not resolve once treatment was complete in 10 days.

March 14th bone marrow biopsy was completed on the left side. These results, in combination with previous chromosome analysis and next-generation sequencing results, provided us with a diagnosis.

Therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)

I'm setting up this gofundme account to help take some of the financial stress off of their shoulders during this time. Kevin needs all the strength he can to fight like the warrior he is to overcome this battle. Kevin has been unable to work since 3/11. The money will be used for gas- as the family commutes to appointments, medical bills as they start coming in, and other needs that arise to help the family get through this devastating time. This family has given so much to our community, and now I'm asking for the help of our community to give back to them. Thank you all for your support and donations during this time.
