Kevin and Allie
Donation protected
My nephew-in-law Kevin will be undergoing brain surgery to remove a mysterious mass on his brain at the young age of 28. They have only been married 2 short years and already have to face a hurdle that some of us will never see in a lifetime. With the expenses of the deductibles, medical copays and limited income while he recovers, any and all donations would be greatly appreciated to help them while he recovers. Hopefully we can help with the financial burden so they can focus on his healing and recovery. Please see my niece’s blog post below for details.
Allie: In less than two weeks, I’ll be sitting in a hospital room with the love of my life after he undergoes an unusual brain surgery. Brain surgery… at 28 years old… Somehow it doesn’t make sense, and it doesn’t feel real, and it most definitely isn’t normal.
In June he went to the doctor because he was noticing it was difficult to project his voice for the last couple years. His doctor decided to send him to an ENT to get it further checked out, and it was discovered through his MRI’s and CT-scans that he had this mysterious mass sitting on and intertwined with his cranial nerves near his brain stem. This spiraled into visiting a neurosurgeon and radiologist, and soon a second neurosurgeon.
On September 20 we both made a visit to Detroit to the second neurosurgeon to see what the next step was for him. I was told by Kev that I had to keep it together and not cry. Through talk of tumors, radiation, surgery, side effects…I held my composure. We sat down with the nurse and scheduled this surgery for November, and we got home from the appointment that evening and my heart and stomach sank. It’s now a real thing. It’s not just talk of possible surgery any longer. This is actually happening…
When I said those words in our vows at our wedding 2 years ago, I didn’t expect all three of those things to be hitting at one time, and especially only 2 years into marriage. I’m thankful for many things in this situation though. I am thankful that it’s not cancer. I am thankful that it’s not a surgery that could effect his personality. I’m thankful that the doctor we have is good at what he does and experienced in tumors. I’m thankful for the jobs I have, and for the job Kevin has. And I’m thankful for the positive people in our lives that are helping us to keep our heads up.
Please pray for this couple, for strength and healing as they face what is most likely the scariest thing they have ever had to deal with.
