On the 17th feb what was meant to be a day out swimming with his cousins ended up turning into a tragic accident and being the worst day of our lives. A 17 year old proud Gumbaynggirr/Dunghutti man, Kevanii Ballangarry, jumped in the water laughing then resurfaced and never opened his eyes again. He was bright with a big heart and looked out for everyone. The most innocent 17 year old I knew. He was loved by many. He had a passion for basketball and loved school, this year he was meant to graduate year 12 and turn 18 in April.
As most of you know Kevanii just buried his father on the 6th of February. This tragic passing was very unexpected and after organising his dad’s funeral his mum has to do it all over again.
His spirit and kindness touched many of us, and he will be deeply missed.
This has been devastating to our family and anyone who knew him. We are now looking to raise money to support Katrina and her children.. Soraya, Ezekiel, Bretsen and Le’Tarryl who will forever be affected by this. Any donation will go towards all costs associated with his funeral, accommodation & travel expenses and their ongoing journey.
While nothing will bring Kevanii back, we can help by relieving some of the unexpected financial burden they are facing. Any donations no matter how little will make a meaningful difference even just sharing this fundraiser.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, love and support for Katrina and also Kevanii’s siblings….Tirell, Ethan, Soraya, Gene, Ezekiel, Bretsen, Leo and Le’Tarryl during this heart-breaking time.
Out gentle giant deserves nothing but the best for his journey into the Dreamtime.
