Kesha’s Hope through Cervical Cancer

I have known Ms. Kesha Settles for 3 years.  Each day passing, I reflect on the truth and essence of a courageous, strong, and giving woman that opens her heart to everyone she meets.  You instantly feel her warmth and welcome from her bright, cheerful, beautiful smile that is widely infectious when she is talking to you.  You will always leave the conversation with at least two laughs and a few words of encouragement from her positive message just for you only.  In the small window of time with her, you feel her genuine interest in wanting to learn who you are in a way that reflects her thoughtfulness.  

Through the time spent together, Kesha is committing to memory some of the special moments about your life shared with her to only be surprised when she sends you a card or flowers or even a phone call remembering a special occasion dedicated to a loved one.  Her endearing qualities never waver; they just sparkle always.

In 2021 Ms. Kesha was diagnosed with stage 2 cervical cancer.  She remained optimistic and always gave you her full self which is amazingly outgoing, vibrant, uplifting, and fun.  As months went by and all the therapy’s taken, her doctor announced she is in remission. It was an overwhelming feeling of joy and elation!!  Sadly, several months later, after a routine checkup, the oncologist stated on July 1st the cancer has returned more aggressively, and he diagnosed her with stage 4 cancer.  It was crushing. She is still trying to recover from the first set of treatments.

Kesha comes from a great heritage of strong women that place their values on faith, family, and supporting their community through an open heart to give.   Kesha, her mother, and grandmother are all currently fighting cancer. Her mother is in remission of breast cancer, and grandmother has breast cancer.  Yet all three ladies stand strong uplifting one another by their love and commitment to stay focused on the positive things in life.  Their faith keeps them strong and they are also surrounded by beautiful people who love them and are advocates for their well-being.  I am inspired by their willingness to not give up, to live each day with a kind heart of love towards others, and staying strong in their personal faith in God.  

Kesha is loved by her older brother who is focused on overall wellness for her mind and body.  She is coveted by her 26 year old son who is the beacon of her life.  He respects and adores her with all his heart.  They have a very close relationship as mother and son. Two of Kesha’s greatest wishes are to take a vacation to Hawaii with her mother and to purchase her first home.  

Before cancer arrived, Kesha was saving and preparing to purchase a home, but she has been overwhelmed with hospital bills that come in very fast.  She has used all of her savings that she has grown for years to pay for the hospital bills that continue to come.
